Hike the Thompson Pass Pack Trail of '99 with local historian and hiker, Jim Kirpatrick, tomorrow, Saturday, August 6th from 10AM - 12PM on Thompson Pass. You can drive and park to the Heidenview neighborhood pull-out at Mi. 19 and shuttle to the top of the trail, or get picked up in town at the Valdez Visitor's Center on 309 Fairbanks St at 9:30AM. You will be guided down the trail from the top of Thompson Pass to the trailhead at Mi. 20 on Richardson Hwy. Jim will also discuss the history of the trail along the hike. The hike is 3 miles mostly downhill (about 2 hrs), but may be muddy due to recent rain. Wear appropriate rain gear and hiking footwear.
BIG THANKS to Valdez Visitor's Center for opening early tomorrow, to Valdez U-Drive for providing transportation, and to Jim Kirpatrick, for guiding!!
